Description-

  • The poet laureate of the preposterous, Jack Prelutsky, takes on the wonder and absurdity of the holidays in this collection of his poetry. From the romance of Valentine's Day to the thrills of Halloween, from the stuffing (and over-stuffing) of Thanksgiving to the joy of Christmas, Jack captures these milestones of childhood with delightfully silly poems.

    Audio includes:

It's Halloween: poems to spice up the holiday that ghouls and ghosts love most

It's Thanksgiving: Thanksgiving poems good every day of the year

It's Christmas: a celebration of the ups and downs of the season

It's Valentine's Day: a delectable and ingenious collection of Valentine poems

About the Author-

  • Jack Prelutsky is the best-selling author of more than fifty books of poetry, including The New Kid on the Block, illustrated by James Stevenson, and Stardines Swim High Across the Sky, illustrated by Carin Berger. Jack Prelutsky lives in Washington State.

Reviews-

  • AudioFile Magazine Jack Prelutsky's holiday poems are perfect for young listeners who have moved on from nursery rhymes; they are short, simple, and delightfully silly. However, Prelutsky works so hard to enunciate and speak softly that his voice comes across as overly modulated, a quality that takes away from the silliness. Although he varies inflection, his performance sounds lacking in emotion, and not much fun; yet his occasional secondary voices, such as the goblin for Halloween, are excellent. He reads at a pleasant pace, allowing those with the book to follow along but fast enough for those just listening. This CD is best for transitional readers, whose attention is equally divided between recognizing the words and enjoying the performance. W.L.S. (c) AudioFile 2006, Portland, Maine
